Just launched a new website project that I did for the Art Advisory Service. One of the reasons I enjoyed working on this project was the opportunity to do a minimalistic design.

My initial thoughts after speaking with them about their project was to design a site that came to life with brush strokes inspired by sumi-e. But after further exploration and conversations, the design evolved into what you see today.

iPhone Project & Storyboard Sketchbooks

As of late, I have been working on the UI for an iPhone app. The overall experience has been exciting because it’s a change from designing websites. While I was sketching my ideas out on basic graph paper, I was thinking wouldn’t it be nice to have a project book where I can sketch out my ideas and keep everything organized. So I took some time to design my own iPhone application sketchbook. I showed the first edition to a friend of mine, Barry Ezell who builds iPhone apps and he loved it.

After taking some time to tweak the sketchbooks a bit based on feedback, I have released my first three iPhone application sketchbooks online for sale.

The iPhone Application Project Sketchbook is structured for developers and has plenty of space for notes and sketching.
The iPhone Application Storyboard Sketchbook is structured for designers and has more space for story boards and planning UI and UX.
The iPhone Developer : Barry Ezell Edition of offers the same features as the firstiPhone application sketchbook.

I have many more sketchbooks on the design table right now and I will be posting them as they are available. I also have a few request for personal projects so if you are interested in the possibilities, drop me a line.

New Project: Sumi-e inspired Web UI Using Artrage

I have been thinking about this for a while but just have not had the time to get it going. It’s a personal challenge to establish a different look and feel outside of my Photoshop habits. I know I won’t finish tonight but I will be gin working on a Web UI that is hand drawn using a program called Artrage.

The ideas going through my head are in water color. Sumi-e inspired, faint wet traces of paint on rice paper. Minimalistic layout giving just as much value to the negative space as the content.

For now the UI. Maybe I’ll build out the design as a WordPress theme or a flash site. We’ll see.

Barcamp Southwest Florida Logo Design

I was asked by Michele Lorito-Chase over at the Ghost Executive Group to come up with a variation of the barcamp logo for the newly formed Barcamp Southwest Florida (barcampswfl). I also created a twitter avatar and background for the group as well because it only seemed like the right thing to do :)

Initial ideas

Project: Blood Children-Living With Sickle Cell Anemia

Something new that I’m working on. I was asked to create a title sequence for a documentary called “Blood Children – Living With Sickle Cell Anemia”. The documentary is being produced by MulTink (pronounced Multi-Ink) an independent film studio based in Indianapolis. In addition to the title sequence, I have also agreed to do them a favor and help with soundtrack as well.

I’m excited about it because it gives me a chance to be a part of a project that helps build awareness of a disease that claimed the life of someone very close to me.

Project: Life Church Redesign

I’m starting on a new project tonight for Life Church. Taking a look at the old design and seeing what needs to be done for the most part. The Minister, who’s a young guy, is wanting to take the site in a more modern direction. New look and feel, even the logo for the church is being revamped.

Cosmetic Design Concept

Just finished up a design concept for enve cosmetics. It’s an interactive makeup assistant that simulates the application of makeup with a few other design elements to add flare. I kept the navigation simple while still allowing her to be able to move around in the app as she needs. I have some other ideas as to what I could do with this thing but I’m going to save them for later :)

Web Work

Things have been crazy busy!!! We launched the Outfit Guide and I’m finishing up a website for a Finishing company in Houston. The site is all flash with custom sounds. I am looking to have it completed and ready to go live by the weekend. I also started working on a new design for homergaines.com. I don’t want to give the concept away just yet because I am going to buy the domain that compliments the theme.

Studio Work

For those of you who have an iPod Touch or a iPhone and you write music, download BeatMaker from Intua. This little app, as small as it is, is like having an MPC in the palm of your hand.

On my way out to Vegas a couple of weeks ago, I used BeatMaker to write music on the long flight. I put together a couple of tracks this weekend too. For the most part, they were experimental but the sound kits that I built are good for production work.

Logo Concepts for so-bananas

I was asked by a twitter friend of mine if I could come up with a logo for her company. So I took a break from Flash and opened up Illustrator and a few paths, points, and pulls later I came up with these initial concepts.

I heard back from my twitter friend and I think the she liked the logo ideas but I could be wrong :) Below was how she responded.
