Twitter Spam

I am all for using twitter to help promote business. I think it’s a great tool (when it’s working) to get your message out but this is something to keep in mind.

Twitter has started blacklisting accounts who appear to be spammers. It’s based on what they call the “Follow Factor”. To get the score you take the number of the accounts you follow divided by the number of accounts following you. Chances are if you are a business using Twitter for promotional programs and your
number of followers is considerably less than your follow number, Twitter is not giving you a very significant ROI. What this also tells us is that even though there may be some who follow companies and find their Tweets useful, the possibility of introducing ads and sponsored messaging into the mix may not be so well  received.
